On World Osteoporosis Day, we at the Asia Pacific Consortium on Osteoporosis (APCO) are pleased to launch BoneConnect by APCO, a new educational platform designed to make reliable, evidence-based bone health information easier to understand.
Developed with an Asia-Pacific perspective, BoneConnect by APCO goes beyond conventional osteoporosis education by bringing together information on a wider range of bone health conditions, practical guidance and regional insights to help people better understand their bone health and make more informed decisions about their care.
Why BoneConnect by APCO? What makes it distinctive?
A wealth of excellent bone health information is already available internationally, particularly through the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) and other leading bone health organisations. BoneConnect by APCO aims to complement these valuable resources by bringing together three important aspects of bone health education.
1. Looking beyond osteoporosis
Bone health involves more than osteoporosis alone. Other medical conditions, underlying health factors and rare bone disorders can also affect the skeleton, yet these may not always be recognised or considered. BoneConnect by APCO takes a broader approach by bringing these topics together, helping people become more aware of potential concerns and understand when further medical evaluation may be needed.
2. Putting patients’ questions first
Knowing about bone health is important but understanding what to do with that knowledge matters just as much. BoneConnect by APCO addresses real-life questions and situations that patients may face. From understanding the important steps following a fragility fracture to knowing what questions to ask a healthcare professional, the platform aims to help people feel better informed and prepared to take an active role in their bone health.
3. Bringing regional insights into bone health education
The Asia Pacific is home to diverse cultures, diets, lifestyles and healthcare systems, each presenting different considerations for bone health. Drawing on regional evidence, including the APCO-IOF Asia-Pacific Regional Audit, BoneConnect by APCO provides insights into bone health challenges across different countries and communities. This helps place bone health education within the everyday experiences and healthcare contexts of people living across the region.
What can you find on BoneConnect by APCO?
BoneConnect by APCO is organised into seven key areas, making it easy to explore the information most relevant to you:

Supporting informed conversations and better bone health
BoneConnect by APCO is an educational resource and is not intended to replace medical advice or the important relationship between patients and their healthcare professionals. Instead, it aims to help people feel better informed and better prepared when discussing their bone health.
By making complex bone health information more accessible, APCO hopes BoneConnect by APCO will serve as a useful educational resource for patients, families and communities, encouraging greater awareness and more informed conversations about bone health.
